Sounds good Steve... I sense a food blogger in the making... and I'm pretty sure noone needs Wok in a Box... although you can pick up some very cool Chinese take away boxes from "Bunzl" on Newcastle St in Northbridge if you'd ever like to recreate the mood of those Chinese take away shops at home. Or indeed take the same container that you ate from to work the next day. Handy...

A crockpot (slow cooker), the lazy workingman's way to cook and a great way to achieve that melt in the mouth meat.

Season and brown the meat at breakie (in the frypan along with your artery hardening bacon and eggs) and toss the meat (osso bucco, lamb shanks etc) along with tinned tomatos, lentils, root veges, and anything else that comes to hand (except maybe not the kids) into the slowcooker along with desired spices. Switch on and leave to slowly cook whilst you "slave for the man". On arriving home, cook some rice and pour yourself a glass of meaty Cab Sav or smooth Merlot. Put on some relaxing tunes and settle back with a large plate of steaming rice and meaty rich goodness.

Who need Wok in a Box! :)

Hey Luca,

That's an excellent idea and something I've been thinking about too... might have to start hunting my local Italian supply shops for prices... anything online you wanna point me to ?

Until then I'll just pretend that I'm being a rustic artisan pasta maker :)

cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt,

You really need to get a motor for your pasta machine. It makes it soooooooo much easier. You can make a kg or so and dry the leftovers. I think that mine was something like $100-$150 ... and well and truly worth it!

Cheers,

Yvo, I wouldn't call oxtail an acquired taste, although it does sound a little odd, but it's so worth the effort of slow cooking it. I just love being able to come back to a dish that's been cooking for a few hours and see how intense all the flavours are. The home made pasta is fun too, just so you know how easy it is to make it yourself (badly or otherwise).

Brilynn, thanks ! it was so good... and they were right when they said it was even better a couple of days later... just wish I had of cooked more in the first place :)

Hmm, I've never considered making oxtail. The few times I've had it, wasn't a fan, but then, it was a long time ago. Funny enough, I just made a slow cooked meal the other day; short ribs. They were melt in your mouth goodness... delicious. I may just give this meal a whirl, though I doubt I'll be as ambitious to make my own pasta... mostly 'cause I have no counterspace to roll anything out. And because anything that requires exact measuring is not my cup of tea.
